Serena Altit Fort Residence

Set beside the ancient Altit Fort, Altit Serena Hotel has lovely views over the Hunza Valley and the surrounding mountains. It’s a peaceful, scenic place that’s just right for a relaxing getaway.

I was pleasantly surprised by Serena Altit. The apricot trees in the gardens and the quiet setting made it a peaceful place to stay. The rooms have excellent views of the surrounding mountains, and the location within Altit fort is great. I’ll definitely stay there again.

The hotel is tucked among local homes and shops, so you can meet welcoming people and experience their culture, traditions, and local food. The staff are courteous and amazing, the food is good, and the huts are comfortable with nice amenities. The small rooms and washrooms are clean, and the valley views from the huts are absolutely great. It really is a gem, though reaching it takes some effort: the car park is far from the property, especially the huts, so there’s a long walk. Parking needs attention. The loose soil creates dirt and a bad first impression, so management should put in a solid surface and keep the route to the property and the streets clean and paved. The parking area is small, and cars can get stuck. My car got blocked once or twice when other guests parked in front of it, wasting a lot of time. The gate is also quite narrow, and it’s hard to get a car in or out when locals park in the street in front of it. Having a permanent staff member at the parking area would help.

What makes Altit Serena special is how connected it feels to Hunza itself. It’s close to the historic bazaar, so you can explore on foot and take in the local culture throughout the day. The staff are warm and attentive, with thoughtful, personal care for families with children and elderly guests. It’s one of the best places to stay in central Hunza if you want more than just a hotel.
