Villa Karmelia

We ended up finding a much better hotel for about the same price, so I can't recommend this place. We arrived with a reservation and deposit already arranged, but our rooms weren't ready and there was only one room instead of two. When I showed the booking, the owner blamed his wife and called her. She said no deposit had been paid. After I showed proof, he said he would never have rented a room at that price, though he began getting another room ready as a favor. When we asked to see the rooms, he said we didn't have to stay and would return the deposit. We took it back. To the owners, this could have been dealt with very differently. It's unfair to the customer if you haven't agreed on a price between yourselves, and it was a shame to be treated without respect.

The owners speak and understand German, and breakfast was perfectly fine. Dinner changes daily and is freshly prepared. It's a small, pleasant family-run place where you can relax, and the value for money is very good. People who complain should think about what they booked and paid for. Some comparisons here seem like apples and oranges.

The beds weren't comfortable, though we managed for a few nights, and rooms facing the street can be noisy. Still, the guesthouse is very clean and the owner is lovely, with good German. Breakfast was basic, but tasty and there was plenty of it. For the price, I'd happily recommend it.

Breakfast was good and enough to eat, though a bit more variety would have helped. The room itself wasn't attended to at all during our stay, and we never saw anyone to speak with among the staff. It was also cold, with the heating off, and the bathroom towel warmer didn't work, so our towels stayed damp. For two of us over eight days, we had just two bath towels and one hand towel in total. One night, somebody cooked in the shared kitchen after 10 p.m., and the smell came into our room. Very unpleasant. The reviews had raised our expectations 🤗, but we were disappointed and can't recommend the guesthouse.
