Hotel Kasztelan

The hotel was immaculate, with spacious rooms right beside the castle, and town was only a short walk away. I had a fantastic dinner there, and breakfast was just as good. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and they spoke excellent English, which helped with my basic Polish. My bicycle was stored safely in the garage. Thanks for everything! John.

The stay was great for the price. Our room was comfortable and nicely done, and if you're lucky you get a lake view from the balcony. The breakfast was good, varied, and local. The place is right by the lake, though there's no direct access, and the view at sunset is awesome.

We stayed four nights in mid September 2023 and came hoping for a pleasant, memorable trip. Instead, we were disappointed. Hotel Kasztelan felt like an amateur operation run by different family members who didn't seem to know how to keep guests satisfied. Our room was hot as an oven, with no air conditioning. The large window and patio door faced the strong midday and afternoon sun, and the cheap paper shades did little to block it. There was a table fan, but it only moved the hot air around. The room didn't cool down until well after midnight. The dining room was nice, and the menu was limited but decent. Still, lots of items weren't available, and some had to be ordered well ahead. The Georgian (or Moldova?) wine was excellent and inexpensive. I've travelled internationally for 55 years, and this was the first place to charge for an extra pillow. It wasn't much money, but it was the principle. They also charged for ice cubes, even though the kitchen had plenty. It seemed like every little thing came with a fee. Breakfast was included and the food was good, but the choices were limited and changed from day to day. Sometimes there was no coffee at the machine and we had to ask the kitchen. Apart from apples, there was almost no fruit, and some fruit, like plums, needed washing. The toaster kept disappearing or didn't work, and once there was no yogurt. It was really disorganized. We stayed at about 14 different hotels in Poland over more than eight weeks, and this was the worst one. I'm sorry to report it.

I felt unfairly treated by the owner/manager. When I found out some of my wedding guests couldn't come, I asked the hotel whether they could sell the extra rooms I no longer needed. They said they'd try but couldn't promise, which seemed fair. A couple of days before arrival, I asked whether they'd sold them. I got no clear answer, but then the manager told me I would now have fewer rooms for the same price because the rate had gone up with fewer rooms booked. That wasn't what we'd agreed. I tried calling to explain, but the manager/owner didn't answer. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Avoid it if you don't want to be misled or charged incorrectly.
