You can reach everything easily from this well-appointed first-floor apartment facing the street: Neptune Fountain is a three-minute walk away, as is the tram stop, and the grocery shop is a minute away. There are also apartments on other floors and ones with courtyard-facing windows. Ogarna Street looked different from the Google photos when I visited. Renovation work was going on, so there was no traffic apart from bicycles. There’s parking by the building, entered from the courtyard, but getting a spot is down to luck. You also risk the municipal police if you enter the restricted zone without a permit issued to residents :). The location is one of the apartment’s biggest advantages, but for me it’s also a drawback. On the scorching days in August 2024, sunlight came through the windows all day and heated the room. There’s no air conditioning, so you’d want to open the windows in the evening, but then you hear everything on the street, even people’s footsteps, not to mention the drunken tourists of all nationalities shouting, which seemed to happen every night because of where the apartment is. We kept the windows shut for quiet and sweltered on a mattress serving as a bedroom on the mezzanine, built near the ceiling of a high-rise tenement room. You reach it by climbing stepped wardrobes, which act like stairs, and that isn’t very comfortable. Even when the room is fairly cool, the mezzanine is hot and stuffy, since heat rises. Hot water comes from a gas heater shared by the two apartments in this unit. The owner has turned one apartment into two for short-term rentals, kudos for the idea, but if someone next door turns on the tap while you’re showering, you get cold water. Cleaning is only done between bookings, so if you stay longer you have to clean yourself. There’s a broom, vacuum, and washing machine. It’s a beautiful apartment in a great spot, though it has drawbacks that people may weigh differently. Quiet at night is one of my key requirements for a comfortable stay, and even in a noisy neighborhood that can be achieved.

The renovation looked beautiful, but I wouldn’t recommend the apartment. It was filthy: dirty curtains, crumbs everywhere, hair in the sink, unwashed towels, and a dirty oven. The view was of garbage cans. The radiator was set to 5, yet it was very cold, and the TV had problems too.

It’s on the fourth floor and there’s no elevator, so you’ll climb 85 steps. The view and being close to the attractions make up for it 😊. Communication with the owner was great.

The owner was fantastic, and the location and decor were incredible. Together, that’s worth five stars.
