You can only see the house from outside, and the thermometer plaque on its facade marks it as the childhood home of Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. The building at 95 Ogarna Street is a rebuilt townhouse, restored after its destruction in World War II with decorative details retained. Born in Gdansk in 1686, Fahrenheit went on to invent the mercury thermometer and establish the Fahrenheit scale, shaping both science and everyday life. A large thermometer memorial column near the Long Market recalls those achievements too. He famously said, "Experimentation is the language of nature." Standing here while walking through the old town gives you a sense of Gdansk's innovative spirit and its way of keeping scientific heritage present in the city. The house is now a private apartment, so visitors can tour only the exterior.
