Five Point Hostel

The place felt very homey, with good furnishings and kitchen utensils. As a hostel, I’d rate it 8/10, though it’s a building and apartments converted into a hostel and I’m not sure I agree with that concept. Poor organization brings it down to 7/10. The bathrooms had no bath mats, and the automatic faucets sprayed so forcefully that water got all over the floor. There was no way to avoid it. In the kitchen there was no tea towel, just paper, which isn’t the most environmentally friendly choice. The room had no blinds, so bring an eye mask. The main reason I took off a point was what happened mid-stay. I found a Japanese couple struggling to get inside and let them in after they showed me their hostel booking. They hauled enormous suitcases up three flights of stairs to their room door. Stairs don’t bother me since I travel with only a schoolbag, but they were struggling. They had called repeatedly asking for the code and got no reply. I suggested messaging again, and they handed me the phone. I used Google translate to read the Japanese chat and saw that the man had been asked by text 2-3 days earlier to cancel his booking because of overbooking or the room being unavailable. They had booked well in advance, so that was really unprofessional. I understand there can be penalties for cancelling reservations, but if the hostel is at fault for having no availability, it should cancel, not leave it to the client. After carrying those big bags up three flights, the distressed couple had to find somewhere else to stay and contact their reservation. I hope the platform they booked through helped them, because to me this was unacceptable.

The rooms were clean and nicely furnished, and the location between downtown and Gdańsk Głowny is perfect. Check-in is self-service, but the owner is always reachable by phone. If you need a hostel in Gdańsk, Five Points is an easy choice.

A lovely hostel for the price. They don’t clean the rooms during your stay, which I expected at this rate. It was very loud because there’s a bar below, and it was hot during our visit so we had to keep the windows open. In cooler weather, the windows do a great job keeping the noise out.

Really clean accommodation, easy to reach, and good value for the price.
