The stay went wrong from the moment we arrived. The address on Google Maps led somewhere else, and we spent 45 minutes outside in the freezing cold trying to find the place and figure out the European keypad. I’ve travelled before, but these keypads were unlike any I’d used; if you’re new to them, the instructions are almost impossible to work out. We rang for all 45 minutes and got no answer. When someone eventually called back, we complained and were told, “we have 150 properties.” That’s not my problem. I asked for a manager to call me straight away. That was Thursday, and by Tuesday, after we’d flown back to the UK, nobody had called. I also asked about the email instructions for getting in. The woman said, “oh sorry thats a mistake, it shouldn't be there!” No wonder we couldn’t figure it out. For all three nights, people smoked in the corridor outside our room, so we had to sleep with cigarette smoke coming in. There were also two dogs there, including a Rottweiler. It was a very nice Rottweiler, but my wife is terrified of dogs, so that didn’t help. The soap dispensers in both bathrooms were basically empty, with only about 3 mm of soap in each. I took a photo in case they dispute it. The terrible directions and service, confusing keypad and email instructions, smoke, dogs, and empty dispensers ruined the trip. This was the first time in years I’d taken my wife away, and you really killed the mood. Don’t stay here unless you’re fine with all of that.
The curtain was broken, which is a concern on the first floor, and the bed was right in front of the window. We also had just two towels for a two-week stay and no way to wash them. We’d booked a deluxe two-room apartment but were given a one-room studio on the first floor instead. The reason changed several times before we were eventually told there were cockroaches in the deluxe apartment. As a result, we had to move in a day later than planned. We still haven’t received the price difference back. At first Joanna only wanted to refund 500 PLN, and I had to work it out for her: the correct amount was 1300 PLN. I can’t say whether that was intentional.
The amenities and location both surpassed what I expected. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Gdańsk.
The building, converted from an old brewery, is modern, and the location is good, with parking nearby. But the apartment at Lelewela 6a/10c Street fell well short of the standard we paid for. We’d been sent there because a problem with our original apartment meant we couldn’t stay overnight. It’s divided into three units, and our “apartment” was filthy. Hair was hanging from the shower head, and the walls were dirty and scuffed with shoes and other things. The dishwasher smelled awful. The washing machine behind the bathroom door meant the door only opened partway, and there was no toilet brush holder or liquid soap. However carefully you showered, the bathroom still got wet. The photos don’t show the state of all the walls, and I didn’t take pictures everywhere.
