Mercure Gdynia Centrum

We booked here for a two-week work trip, a group of 12 including me, because the other places we preferred couldn't fit the dates we needed. The rooms are decent and breakfast is basic. The staff work hard, but their interaction with guests seems limited to clearing plates and cutlery in an orderly way. The reservation department never mentioned that renovation was underway on the floor above us, with very loud drills and power tools. The front desk offered earplugs, but they do nothing to block the noise, which echoes through the building.

The food at the bar suited us well, and it was properly staffed. We especially liked the excellent cheese and meat platter. The room felt fresh, the walk-in shower was great, and the bed was comfortable, although the pillows were too big and hard to sleep on. Breakfast was among the best we've had at an Accor hotel, with several herring flavors, a fresh waffle maker, plenty of fruit, and good hot and cold options.

The biggest problem was the construction throughout the hotel. The high-pitched drills were so loud they shook the walls, and it felt like they were drilling right into the Great Wall of China. Nobody told us before we arrived; the only notice was a sign at the front desk asking guests to excuse the renovations. They even offered earplugs, as if I were heading to a shooting range. From what others on the floor told me, the noise carried all across it. The front desk never answered the phone, either. I'm currently staying here, and I'd upload a video of the drilling if I could. I booked with coworkers, but they couldn't connect the stay to my membership in the app, so I lost points. The TV only worked every other day, there's no gym, and breakfast could be better. I couldn't have a decent conversation without the 59 waiters watching my plate and then rushing over to snatch it away. I was thinking, damn, hello, nice to meet you too, how you doing!

The staff were nice and knew how to help. I was here for a two-day trip to Gdynia, and the breakfast was very nice, probably the best option I've seen in a long time. Maybe that's standard in Poland.
