Zamek

The location was fantastic, and I liked the pool and spa. The hotel and rooms are older, but ours was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety, and the hotel restaurant was decent too.

We booked two nights, but our room wasn’t cleaned at all during the stay. The bed wasn’t made, and the towels I’d left in the shower tray as instructed so they could be replaced were still there. There’s no hairdryer, and there’s no reception or staff on site. You have to go to Hotel Bruno to ask for these things. The room had a musty smell, so I didn’t unpack my suitcase, only the clothes I wanted to wear straight away. It was noisy too. The walls must be paper thin, because you hear every guest in the next room and everyone passing in the hallway. The furnishings and mattresses felt like they’d been bought at the end of the Cold War in 1989, or maybe even earlier. The whole room was uncomfortable and unappealing. I gave it one star for a roof over my head and running hot water. On our tour of Poland, we stayed in much more comfortable places for less than €71 a night. Don’t be fooled by the reviews for Hotel St. Bruno, which is part of the same complex. The standard there is worlds apart from Hotel Zamek. This was truly a terrible experience. The two stars the hotel uses to justify the overwhelmingly negative reviews don’t cut it. At that rating, you should at least get a mattress you can sleep on and clean air without a musty mold smell.

The only real plus is being right in the center of Giżycko. The rooms are damp, the bathroom smells like urine, and noise carries in from neighboring rooms.

The location is the one good thing. In the room there’s a modest bathroom, a balcony, a wardrobe, a TV, and a double bed made from two singles. The bed has a dip in the middle and is uncomfortable. There’s no fridge or kettle, and nowhere to eat outside the room, so we’re stuck going into town. We were here in August and ended up buying ice at Frog to keep our drinks cold. There’s no service here. Everything is handled through the separate Bruno Hotel. I definitely won’t return and don’t recommend the place.
