Hostel Kaktus Guest House Katowice

We were disappointed they thought the guest house was ready to rent. The photos show nice rooms, but when you arrive it feels like a construction zone. Mattresses had mold, the bunk beds were unstable and might break, and electrical wires were hanging out unshielded. The wall sockets seemed unsafe and were taped to the beds. There were bloodstains on sheets and curtains, and the room doors wouldn’t close properly. The owner said the adjacent balconies were at risk of collapse. An awful alarm went off by itself, or after too much was plugged into the sockets, and wouldn’t shut off. Neither the owner nor the handyman knew how to fix it. The handyman searched a closet with no electricity connected for a switch. Some rooms weren’t finished yet and were basically trash zones with beds. The owner was aggressive and didn’t want to refund us, acting as if he had every right to keep us there. It was so uncomfortable and unsafe that we left for other shelter the same night, wasting time and money. Don’t stay here for your own safety!

The location was perfect, and I had a good room with a nice balcony view. The bathroom and kitchen were awful, though. There was also a very strong cigarette smell, even with signs saying smoking was forbidden.

The room was decent and the location was good, but the receptionist was quite indifferent. The cleaning lady asked us at least ten times every day when we were leaving because she had to clean the room. Someone also stole our food from the fridge.

There’s mold on the mattress, and apparently the owner doesn’t think that’s a problem. I’d rather not sleep on one.
