Makara Pokoje Goscinne

We picked this hotel on our way home, and the friendly receptionist did bring us extra pillows when we asked. But the place feels more like a cheap dormitory than a three-star hotel, and there was less than the listing suggested. Tap water wasn’t drinkable. The mattresses and pillows were worn, the bed felt slightly damp, and the shower head was broken with almost no water pressure. There was no soap in the bathroom, and we couldn’t tell if the plastic cups had been used before. Breakfast was fairly plentiful, but mostly fried eggs and sausages with just a little cucumber and tomato and very few greens. Even an apple would have helped. The bread was dried out, and everything was cut into very thin slices. This might work if you’re on a strict budget, but expect less than advertised.

The breakfast looked good but tasted bad, and it made my stomach hurt. I had to rush to the bathroom right afterward. The women at check-in were very nice, so the service gets the only extra star. For the price, this hotel is really poor value. My first and last time here.

Their listing says the check-in desk is open around the clock, but we were asked to pay an extra 100 PLN for arriving late. Since we had already been charged, there was no way to get a refund. A sign at the entrance said they accept dollars, euros, and zloty. Our cards were declined when we tried to pay the extra fee, and the woman kept shouting, “No euro, no euro.” Once we selected PLN, the payment went through. In the room, a few cockroaches tried to run off, but my friend was quick and killed them on sight.

The room itself wasn't too bad, but the restaurant was a mess. It looked as though there was no server, and the meal I got was nothing like what I'd ordered. It was a pretty crazy experience, and I don't like saying bad things about people or places, but I paid 30 PLN for something that seemed more like a baby's portion.
