Ametyst Hostel

The room was freezing. Even with the heating on, the insulation was so bad that we needed two blankets to sleep. My friends and I, all women, booked two nights and were lucky to have a whole room to ourselves. The hostel was supposedly rated five stars on Hostelworld, but it was full of middle-aged men who kept approaching us and made us very uncomfortable. Some made strange noises while eating or showering nearby, and one tried to get into the shower while my friend was in it. At 6:30 on our departure morning, a man snoring loudly on the sofa outside our door woke us up. If you're a woman travelling alone, avoid this place at all costs.

The street noise made it hard to sleep, the shower lights kept going out, and the place smelled awful. Older men were hanging around the kitchen in their underwear. The owner's replies to the many Google reviews should tell you enough about booking here. Das Hostel is a minute away, at a similar price, with much better service. Also, they delete your Hostelworld booking, which is why the rating there is 10 stars.

I booked through a major platform but changed my mind after reading reports of cleanliness problems and an unsafe atmosphere, including intoxicated men in shared rooms and inappropriate behavior in common areas. There's no reception presence, and management was unresponsive and unhelpful when I asked for a refund. They ignored me. The owner's replies to negative reviews are another red flag: they're hostile and attack guests personally instead of addressing the complaints. This feels unsafe, not just dirty or disorganized. If you care about your well-being, skip this hostel.

We stayed as a family with two kids and spent most of the day out in town. The small apartment was clean, nicely kept, and had the basic kitchen things we needed. It was very hot while we were there, and being on the top floor made the place hot too, but it didn't affect our stay.
