I couldn't get a reservation at the Gródek Hotel restaurant in the Old Town this time, though I'd eaten there before and had a very good impression. So I tried Dwór Kościuszko, and it was excellent too. The service and atmosphere were impeccable, and the Polish food was classic, delicious, and served in generous portions. My favorites were the bone-in breaded pork cutlet, rosół with meat dumplings, and Polish apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Dwór Kościuszko is one of four Kraków properties managed by the Donimirski group. Their hotel restaurants tend to have almost the same menu. This one sits a little farther from the city center, in the estate of General Kościuszko, so the area feels more peaceful and the prices seem more attractive.

The reception staff seemed uninterested, and their English was very poor. The restaurant also looked neglected. When we stopped by with our relatives from Poland, we could hardly believe this was the palace where we'd had such a wonderful New Year's Eve just a year earlier. We'd even recommended it to them, and had planned to stay here again. The tables were worn and unattractive, and the tablecloths that once gave the place its distinctive “Old House” atmosphere were gone. For reasons I don't know, the restaurant isn't holding a New Year's Eve event this year, and its menu is only available until 12 p.m. The whole hotel had lost its former feel. It's a great pity someone has ruined this palace on the outskirts. A nightmare, in a word.

The buffet was fresh and interesting, with lots of homemade ingredients, and everything was presented and served very nicely. We had breakfast there while staying at the hotel.

I really liked the hotel and breakfast. Dinner could use more choices.
