Hotel Wawel

The staff made check-in and checkout smooth, and were friendly, attentive and helpful throughout. Our room at Hotel Wawel was spacious, clean and comfortable, with modern amenities. Breakfast had a good range of fresh options. The location made getting around easy, just a short walk to the Main Market Square and other historic sites. Our visit to Kraków was stress-free and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

The hotel has lovely decorations and a comfortable room with good-quality furniture. It even smells nice throughout. Its position in the heart of the old town is wonderful. We were impressed beyond our expectations and highly recommend it.

The showers were good, and the reception and cleaning staff did a good job. The breakfast room staff, though, weren't good. Breakfast was a buffet, but after two days I was down to coffee and toast. It could use better variety. There's a coffee machine in a separate room that's available all day. The beds are small.

I’m picky about hotels, and this one worked really well for me. It was clean, felt safe, and was right near everything, so we never needed a taxi during our visit. The hotel is centrally located and cost less than the nearby places I was comparing it with. Breakfast was small but had a decent selection. There aren't many luxuries, and I'd spend double if I wanted a luxury stay, but the boutique style suited me better than the Holiday Inn stays I usually book. I’d happily return. I did wish the front desk staff put a little more effort into helping guests feel comfortable. For getting there, the Ska1 train from Krakow airport takes 28 minutes to Grzegorzki station and runs every 30 minutes. The airport connection is well marked, mostly indoors, and easy to find. From Grzegorzki it's an 11-minute walk to the hotel. A ticket costs 20pln, about $8cad or €5.5. You can buy one at a booth or online, or pay the conductor after departure. On the way back, use platform 2 and make sure you board the Ska1. Trains leave Grzegorzki on the hour and half hour, and the conductor checks tickets after departure. It's a three-minute walk from the station into the airport security check-in. I wouldn't recommend renting a car in Krakow, especially if you're from North America. Be careful with taxis too: some may overcharge tourists. Use a licensed taxi with rates displayed on the window. Someone recommended Bolt via the app, and I noticed that many taxis outside tourist areas were unlicensed. Also check your bill. At one Italian restaurant, they raised the price above what the menu showed. We questioned it, but paid rather than argue. Drinks are taxed at %20 + and food at %8. Other restaurants we'd been to already included the tax in the menu prices. That restaurant added another %28 for food and drink.
