Hotel Wit Stwosz

The location was great, in the old town but just far enough from the centre that it wasn't busy. There are lots of bars and restaurants on the street, but our room was relatively quiet. We could hear people outside, but it wasn't loud enough to interrupt our sleep. After checkout, they held our bags because our flight was later that evening. It's a lovely rustic hotel with friendly, accommodating service. Breakfast was varied and delicious, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Ours had a very large reception room attached to the bedroom, plus a second toilet room separate from the main bathroom.

The basement breakfast room felt like stepping back in time, which I found fascinating. Breakfast itself was very good, with plenty of dishes to choose from. The hotel is close to the Old Town, and our attic room was warm, cozy, clean and quiet, with everything we needed. Everyone was friendly. When fog disrupted flights at Kraków airport and we weren't sure we'd be able to take off, I called to ask about staying an extra night. The receptionist was kind and said they'd find a way to help if needed. I'd definitely come back to Kraków. I do wonder whether the owner knows more about the building's history, especially the basement.

Plenty of cafes and restaurants are just a short walk away, so the location worked really well for exploring the city. The staff were all friendly, and for the price this older, basic hotel was fine. We didn't try the breakfast. The beds weren't very comfortable, and the blanket felt short for a tall guy like me. The room keys have the hotel name and room number on them, which seems like a security risk. The lift only reaches the third floor, so guests on the fourth have to carry bags upstairs. That was fine for us, but worth keeping in mind if you're older. A decent budget stay.

The room was pretty basic, and the curtains didn't block the light well. There was a strange moldy smell by the entrance. At 3-4 am, drunk people were shouting under the window so loudly that earplugs didn't help. The rest was fine.
