Villa Masoneria

The rooms were clean and the price seemed about average. It was already quite warm when we visited, around 20-23 degrees, so I can imagine the heat being an issue in summer. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms. Still, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about with this hotel.

The staff were good, but breakfast was poor. At night I could hear loud knocking and the tram. There was dust everywhere, including by the pillow, bed, curtains, and carpet, and the mattress was badly uneven.

I moved rooms, and the street-facing one was noisy: the trams rumbled loudly, as did people in the rooms above. I got some sleep, but not much. A top-floor room on the courtyard side could be decent if its radiator works, but I wouldn’t trust assurances from the staff. Get the details in writing and check everything in the room before settling in. The first room I had was quiet because it faced the courtyard and was on the top floor, but it was unbearably hot. It was 32 Celsius outside, and I initially blamed the closed windows and poor insulation. Around 2 am I realized the radiator was stuck on. It was tied to a thermostat, so trying to air the room only made the radiator hotter. I didn't sleep. I reported it the next morning. The receptionist said they'd had the same issue in another room the day before, which made me wonder why they hadn't checked all the rooms. She didn't apologize or show any remorse. I had booked another night two days later, and she said they'd fix the radiator or move me. Neither happened. The next receptionist handed me the key to room 16 again, with no apparent communication from her colleague. I checked, and the radiator was still on.

I’ve stayed here twice now. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is clean and quiet. Most services were shut down because of covid, so it was hard to rate everything. The price includes parking, Wi-Fi, and basic TV channels. It’s good value, and being close to the city centre is a plus.
