Hotel Victoria

Olkusz itself is worth a stop. It's near two castle ruins, and the square, the pretty Basilica, and the little statues explaining the town's history make it a fun place to explore. There's also parking for a small daily fee, and the hotel is close to the Basilica and the nice main square. The town could use more places to stay, though, so hotels have some competition to make them try harder. The room was noisy from every direction. With the window open, road noise went on all night; with it shut, the room was hot. We could hear people in other rooms brushing their teeth, showering, and flushing, plus people in the hallway. At first the room seemed clean, but there was gritty sand all over the floor, even though we barely walked in with our shoes on. The twin beds were tiny and had the hardest mattresses imaginable. The pillow flattened so much it felt like there was no pillow at all. The bathroom looked clean, but shower water escaped under the door and soaked the floor until the bathmat was dripping. We tried breakfast one day and skipped it the next. The coffee was awful, and the tea water looked like it had been sitting in the pot all week, with a thick layer of limescale floaters. The food laid out seemed fine, but there wasn't much of it compared with some of the Google pictures.
