Hostel Night o'clock

There was no hot water in the bathroom, so I had to take a cold shower. The room heater didn't work, and with no window insulation there was noise. The breakfast was very bad. They provide service for your money, and they have racist attitudes toward foreign guests.

The staff were warm and friendly, and I was glad reception had an umbrella stand I could use when a sudden downpour hit. My room, Manchester, was stunning in person, the photos and videos don't do it justice. The hotel is two minutes on foot from the train station, and its distinctive retro decor adds a lot of charm. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable, memorable visit.

For a hostel, the standard was surprisingly high. The room was great and the bathroom spotless. It did get very hot in the room, even though the weather outside was quite cool. The walls were thin enough that I could almost make out what someone next door was saying.

There’s no elevator, and nobody to help with luggage. The hot water kept cutting out, so I showered in cold water and got sick. We asked reception several times about the heating, but they refused to turn it on, saying the 10-degree weather wasn’t cold. After two days I asked to change rooms. He said we’d get a better one, then gave us the worst room: tiny for two people, nowhere for our luggage, dark and smelly. The rooms were dark and smelled bad from the start, with pictures everywhere and depressing wallpaper. A total fiasco, and expensive.
