Getting in was a problem because we had to wait for the manager to arrive with a key. Communication with her was great, though. The rooms and bathroom were clean, and there was hot water, but it felt very cold in there even with the radiator on. The room itself warmed up once the radiator was switched on. The duvets were very thin, so extra blankets would’ve helped. There was no kitchen, but we managed with the kettle, coffee, tea, and plates provided in the room. No room service at all.

My booking through Booking.com was canceled just 30 minutes before I was due to arrive. I was traveling alone for one night, and I can only guess why they canceled it. I don’t buy the explanation about technical problems affecting the whole hotel. It felt like complete disrespect for the customer. Judging by the reviews, negative experiences seem common here. I wish I’d checked them before booking and wasting my time. STAY AWAY!!!

The staff were friendly without being intrusive, and the room had the basics I needed: a bed, chair, table, wardrobe, bedside light, kettle and tea, TV, and mirror. The room itself is modest. Shared bathrooms serve several rooms, and they were clean and smelled fresh. It’s conveniently close to the main train station. You can also borrow an iron and thread, and use the refrigerator.

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. I didn’t actually stay overnight, so this is about my dealings with the staff and owner at Xantier Guesthouse. I needed somewhere urgently near the guesthouse and booked through Booking.com. A while later, I got a text addressing me as a man and saying I’d booked for one person and would need to pay extra for a second. There was no punctuation or signature. Thinking it might be an error, I replied to explain. That’s when things started ;) The person speaking for the Guesthouse kept using masculine forms to describe me. I corrected them and sent screenshots of the confirmation showing a booking for two, but they still insisted I was a man, with rude comments and a sarcastic tone. I was more and more stunned with each message. Eventually, the person at Xantier Guesthouse realized both mistakes: my gender and the booking for two. They didn’t admit it or apologize, so I canceled the reservation. I’ve never been treated like that before, and I’ll read reviews next time. This won’t be the first post about customers being treated reprehensibly. I’m shocked that someone can run a place for guests and treat people this way. Owners, you make money from your guests, so how can you behave like this or let it happen? It shows no basic respect. Outrageous. Avoid this place if you want friendly service.
