Pod Sokolem

The food was memorable, and the reactions from the table beside us when their starters arrived were a treat. We were just as delighted with ours. Our waitress was warm and helpful, and seeing all the awards in the foyer made sense. I visit Sokółka about once a year and am already keen to work my way through more of the menu. I stayed somewhere else, so I can’t say anything about the rooms.

The food was okay, but the service was awful. Drinks and dishes took ages to arrive, and paying took ages too. That long wait for a table makes sense now. They need to improve the service. Would I go back? Definitely not.

The Żurek soup was really good, and the Sagan Sokolski had plenty of meat and tasted good. The sheep flavor was very strong, though, and the portion might be too much for one person. Anyone who isn’t especially fond of sheep or goat may find it overwhelming. The Taretare had a bit too much Maggie spice.

The żurek wasn’t for me. I think they made it with a sorrel soup base, which I don’t enjoy. The rest of our meal was lovely as usual: the pork knuckle was tender and came off the bone easily, with just the right amount of condiments. My wife liked her duck leg too, still moist and tender.
