We were let down by our stay at the Orla Khata house. The people managing it were rude when I asked about the internet, acting foolish and trying to be clever. There was no internet despite it being listed on the website, and the TV didn't work either. Several chairs were broken, the furniture was generally in poor shape, the door lock stuck, and both the toilet and sink were loose. There were no curtains, so we had no privacy. The place was much farther from the city and sea than I expected. For what it costs, the accommodation and service don't meet the price or expectations. I can't recommend it.

We've cycled for years and stayed in all sorts of places, but this was the worst. The area is beautiful, which makes the experience even more of a shame. The owner brushed off every complaint with comments like, "well, it's clogged," although the toilet flush was eventually fixed. The place was filthy, the flush was broken, the bathroom door wouldn't shut properly, and the table wobbled. Beds had broken boards and mattresses that sank in, and the oven had a "do not use" sign. We found the owner's behavior unprofessional and disrespectful. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The weather was good, luckily, so we didn't have to spend much time inside. After 14 days there with five adults and a toddler, I wouldn't recommend the house with the raven in its current state. It needs a full overhaul. The online photos didn't show the house we were given, the one with the plastic raven on the veranda. There were three rooms and eight beds, arranged in two sets of three and one set of two, but each had only a worn foam topper about 10 cm thick, not really a mattress. They'd be a poor choice for anyone with back problems. The small bathroom was inadequate for our group. Its uneven PVC floor was a tripping hazard, and the sink was tiny and attached only to the vanity, not the wall. Showers one after another weren't practical because the water took over 30 minutes to drain. With four houses on the property, including the owner's, the septic tank filled in just under a week, and sewage might have backed up into the toilet. The cistern was broken and needed another push after flushing to stop the water running. The living and kitchen area was sparsely furnished. The oven hasn't been usable for years because the stove runs on a propane cylinder, which was especially unfortunate with no bakery nearby. A small fridge had a tiny freezer compartment that only froze our ice packs when set to level 6. Beside it was a large fridge-freezer that was supposedly broken and took up space in the already cramped room. Indoors there were enough dining chairs for six; outside, just four shabby, very wobbly chairs, some with screws sticking out of the seats. Only some windows had fly screens, and those were damaged. We put up flypaper because there were flies as well as mosquitoes. There's no central heating, only a fireplace, and you have to buy the wood. We didn't need to use it.

There's plenty of room for a big family, and the price is really good. The people are lovely and ready to help. They showed us how to use the washing machine when we needed it, though there wasn't one in the house. It gets very hot and there are lots of mosquitoes, so bring your own fan and mosquito net or canopy. I hope I can come back.
