The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, and the spacious property has potential for family trips, with a large shared area that makes it easy to spend time together. Still, our stay fell well short of what we expected. The cleanliness didn’t feel up to the standard of a place advertised as luxurious. There was a damp smell throughout, especially downstairs. The kitchen cabinet fronts were sticky and parts of the kitchen looked neglected. The windows were dirty, as was the grime-sticky TV remote. The bedding seemed unwashed and smelled of previous guests, and the floors, sills, and stairs needed a more thorough clean. The owner contacted us on Booking.com with a report just five minutes after we left, alleging that we had brought extra guests, a dog, and smoked inside. Our friends came with children, so there were four more children than the 10 adults and 2 children in the booking, making 10 adults and 6 children. We didn’t think this would be an issue because it required no extra preparation from the owners. The owner only raised it after the fact, instead of during check-in, when we could have responded. When we tried to explain, the owner was aggressive and wouldn’t accept our account: the dog had run in from the neighbors’ property, and the only smoker in our group smoked outside. The ashtray could easily have confirmed that. We were also concerned about the CCTV. It was used to count people and watch for the alleged dog, then to charge extra fees after our stay, when we had no chance to intervene. We weren’t told about the cameras or how the footage was processed. We don’t know how long the recordings are kept or why, and the images of children raise serious questions about data protection and privacy. Part of our deposit was withheld for alleged extra charges for the children, even though no additional charges had been made. These costs were added afterwards, without our knowledge or a chance to respond. That felt one-sided and unprofessional. The property may have potential, but poor cleanliness, the owner’s aggressive communication, and the surveillance left us with a bad impression. I can’t recommend it to anyone expecting comfort, professionalism, and fair treatment.
