Hotel Czarna Róża

I stayed here for a while in January 2024 and left some of my personal things behind. I was able to get in touch with a woman at the hotel, and she arranged for a cab driver to deliver them to me hours away. Best hotel and service ever. If she still works there, I hope she sees this and knows how grateful I am. ❤️

It’s a small, friendly hotel in the old town, and it was inexpensive but comfortable. Our room was in the new rear annex, overlooking the river. We were very pleased with it, though I imagine it could get too hot for comfort in really hot weather. I thought breakfast was fine, despite what people seem to say about it. The pre-made coffee was a bit weak at the weekend, so you’re better off asking for a fresh one from their small espresso machine.

There are loads of old town hotels to choose from, so we picked this one to see how it was. The room was surprisingly nice and had everything we needed. The building is old but keeps up with the times, and it’s easy to miss what’s inside. It was reasonably priced, too. I’d definitely stay again. It’s around the corner from one of the more popular bars, which was cool. Reception was nice, and there’s a small bar and a breakfast area, plus a back patio that I bet gets busy in summer. No elevator, though. We had the top floor loft, so there was a bit of a leg workout. The bed area up top was short, and I had to bend over to walk.

The staff were exceptionally polite and kind, and clearly wanted to make us comfortable. It was hot during our visit, so the very nice woman on the night shift offered us her fan. At breakfast the next morning, we asked for cold water, and another kind staff member gave us a bottle for free. That was a first for me in five years of living in Europe! The hotel itself is a beautiful old house right in the middle of Torun’s old town, beside the gingerbread museum and behind Nicolaus Copernicus's house. There’s an old piano and a chiming grandfather clock at reception. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Torun, a charming, cute old city in Poland.
