a&o Warszawa Wola

At €149 a night, a&o Warszawa Wola was a huge disappointment. I booked through Booking.com expecting a hotel, but it felt like a self-service hostel. Check-in was only a computer screen, with no staff to help, and there was no guidance on finding the lift or room. Even connecting to Wi-Fi meant going through a tedious registration with booking and ID numbers. If you have heavy luggage, note that there is no suitcase ramp on the stairs to the entrance. The 16m² room was cramped and badly laid out. A huge 50x50cm concrete pillar took up a lot of space, and the small desk was tucked behind it in total darkness. The lighting was dim and cheap-looking, like a bunker. In the bathroom, there was only shower gel, no shampoo or lotion. Breakfast was just as disappointing. Nobody managed the area or checked whether people had paid. The food was poor, with rubbery cheese and cheap sausages, and there was always a queue for the single low-quality coffee machine. You also have to clear your own table. I feel Booking.com and the hotel mislead guests by not making it clear this is a basic hostel. Paying premium hotel prices for this self-service bunker experience is unacceptable. Never again.

The price is very reasonable, and getting to the city center by Uber or public transport is easy. The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful with everything. We checked out about an hour later than the scheduled time, and they didn't make an issue of it. Great value for money.

My uncle came over from London with his family, two adults and two children, and I spent ages looking for a family-friendly place for them in Warsaw. I'm glad I picked this one. The guest kitchen downstairs was especially useful for cooking and storing frozen food, and there was also laundry, a kids' play area, good breakfast, and reception help at any hour. They enjoyed hanging out in the ground-floor restaurant and bar in the evenings. The room was in great condition for the price, which was even lower thanks to a Wizz Air promotion discount. As someone living in Poland, I was happy to host my family here, and they really liked the atmosphere. 10/10.

The location is great and my room was fine, and the staff I met were friendly and polite. But a few things made my three-night stay difficult. Housekeeping never came by, and the trash wasn't taken out; guests seem to be expected to manage that themselves, which should be explained clearly. Breakfast was in the bar area and the choice was very limited. By about 9 AM, most of the food was gone, and on day two there weren't any clean plates or cups. The coffee machine didn't work, and there wasn't hot water either, so I couldn't have tea or coffee during the stay. Arriving after 3 AM was the worst part. I waited outside for around 20 minutes, with nobody at reception and no answer to the doorbell. I had to walk around the whole building to find another entrance. Being alone outside at night in a foreign city and unable to get in was upsetting. Someone finally let me in only after I contacted the hotel through Booking. The place has potential, but service and organization need significant improvement.
