Hotel Cykada

We had the seafood soup, which was great, and fresh halibut that was very good. Both were reasonably priced, and there’s a decent range of main courses to choose from. The waitress was friendly and helpful, and since we were the only guests at the time, service was quick. The restaurant is easy to find near Brodnica, with a large car park and clear visibility from the main road, which isn’t always the case. There’s a hotel next door too.

The dinner service was a complete failure. We booked an 8pm table at the front desk when we arrived, but the staff seemed young and unsure what they were doing. By the time we came down, the busy service seemed to be over and half the tables in the main restaurant had already eaten. They put us in the main party hall with menus, then left us waiting until we finally got someone’s attention and placed our order. Our drinks still hadn’t arrived after 20 minutes, so I had to fetch them from the bar myself. Another 20 minutes passed before the starters came. My wife’s was OK, but my prawns were raw inside. It took 15 minutes to get anyone to come over, and they took the dish away without apologizing. We came for a Valentine’s break with my wife, and the stay was really disappointing. We arrived early and got our room key. The room was fairly clean, but there was an unexplained stain on the carpet, and the whole place looked dated and in need of an update. The TV was only a little bigger than a tablet and sat too far from the bed. There wasn’t much to do around the hotel. We walked nearby, but without driving somewhere, the options seemed limited to staying in the hotel or going to the restaurant. The main courses were OK, but the service felt completely unprofessional. We never saw a manager, and I hope there is one on site sometimes, because while we were there it seemed the young staff were running everything.

There were five of us, four adults and a six-year-old, when we arrived around 2pm today. Only a three-seat table was available, and we were told they’d sort something out soon. We got menus, waited 15 minutes, and then were moved to a larger table. Ten minutes later, the waitress came over to say they wouldn’t be able to serve us because a wedding was starting in another room and they couldn’t manage five more meals. When we asked for a supervisor, we were told they would serve us after all, but the wait could be over an hour. Another family with three young boys was there too, and they left after waiting more than an hour for a second course. Disgraceful.

We held our wedding here, and the staff and gods were amazing. The hotel itself is fantastic, with spotless bedrooms and restaurant. I’d highly recommend staying and eating here.
