Good Bye Lenin Hostel Zakopane

The climb up the hill to this hostel takes some effort, but the setting in the Zakopane mountains is beautiful. Once you get there, the kind volunteers welcome you warmly, help plan hikes, and make it easy to find good company. I’d join a group rather than hike alone, and choose one that fits your fitness level. You’ll hear complaints about the propane smell, cramped rooms, and crowding, and those things are real. It’s not a polished, high-end place with every facility. It feels more like a small house shared with friends. Breakfast is the only meal provided, so bring food. The nearest supermarket is about a 20-minute walk away and closes early. What stayed with me was the atmosphere, the helpful volunteers, and the people. I’ve never left another hostel actually missing it this much. There can be long evenings of talking, relaxing, and getting to know people you’ve only just met. For solo travelers who want a cozy place and good company instead of luxury, it’s a great experience. I’d absolutely come back, and would regret not going.

I’ve stayed here twice, in January 2025 and September 2025, and I’m already keen to come back. I loved the place and the people I met both times. Mia and mao are gorgeous, and so is the goat. The walls have lovely artwork, and the traditional architecture is great. There are nice walks to Morski Oko and shorter treks around 'home'. The other guests were fab, and we became friends even though we probably won’t meet again. Most of the volunteers were really great. One was a bit naff in January, but it wasn’t a big deal since all the others were brilliant. I hope to return in May and stay longer this time. ❤️

A wholesome little place on the edge of Zakopane, with a friendly shared atmosphere. The staff were extremely helpful throughout my stay. It’s set up like a cute log cabin, with two cats and a goat, and breakfast was nice too. I’d definitely come back to climb in the Tatras.

Even as an introvert, I had a great time at the social events. The daily activities were fun, and everyone was very friendly. The staff were incredible.
