Hotel Colombus

Freddy, the owner, is a warm and gracious host, and he's an incredible singer. Go to karaoke and you'll see. It can run late, though the place is otherwise quiet. This family-run hotel sits right on the beach and has more rooms than you'd guess from its charming, small feel. There's a dining room, bar, pool, and conference room, plus breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The mofongo is good, and the bar is a nice gathering spot. A relaxed place to bring the family, eat, drink, drum, stroll the beach, snorkel, and explore town. The staff are wonderful.

The food is good, and the ocean views from some rooms are one of a kind. The host also gives excellent service and attention. But the building looks old and needs a lot of remodeling, especially paint on the outside. I didn't like that some ocean-view rooms share a balcony, since that takes away privacy. I had booked a particular room and was put in a different one without the amenities I reserved. They said they wanted to keep the best rooms for people paying more through other booking apps or in cash. The room prices feel high for what's offered. Lower rates would make it fair, but right now it's too much. The parking also wasn't what I'd expect from a hotel.

The location and view were fantastic, but the hotel felt really worn and not very clean. It needs some care. My room was okay, just poorly furnished. The fridge had rust, the bathroom window was moldy, and paint chips from the table and bench covered the nearly useless balcony. There was no cleaning, and towels were lacking.
