Borinquen Beach Inn

The staff were great, and the location is ideal for getting to the beach or walking to several places to eat and drink. I booked last minute on a budget, so for what it is and where it is, the room wasn’t bad. It’s modernized as much as they could manage. Just be prepared for a small room, bathroom, bed, and TV, plus a closet that barely feels like a closet. I’m not faulting the place too much, given my own circumstances, but that’s what the room itself is like.

UPDATE: I got my deposit back, so I’m raising this to 3 stars. Still, people travel a long way, and guests should be told ahead of time if the water will be shut off. Apart from that, things were tolerable and the staff were nice, so I might have considered coming back. I won’t return because no one told me the water would be off. There was a sign on the door when I checked in, but nobody mentioned it to me. The walls are paper-thin, and the couple next door were having a really bad fight. I didn’t even pull back the comforter, and at the time I hadn’t gotten my $50 deposit back. If it’s your first time in San Juan and you’re considering this hotel, be aware the location is fabulous, but there are lots of other choices that may cost more and at least have showers and a microwave in the room. The beach towels were disgusting, too. One more thing, give me my deposit back. I left the room in good condition. This must be what they don’t outsiders.

The beds were comfortable, the place was clean, and the staff were awesome. There’s a fully equipped kitchen for guests and free coffee, which was a nice bonus. The hotel is in a great spot, with the beach just a minute away behind it, and restaurants, bars, and grocery stores all within walking distance. We loved staying here and will definitely come back!

For the price, I thought this was a great value. I stayed four days at the end of October, when the beaches were empty, and the ocean was amazing. I felt safe in the water and on the beach. It was easy to head right down in my hat and swim trunks and walk barefoot into the water. The beach is stunning. This isn’t a luxury place, and the building could be better maintained, but I’d happily pay the same price again for the room, housekeeping, and location. It was quiet for me in room 111 at the front, near the main road, and I slept like a baby. I’d recommend that room. The building is clearly old, but I didn’t mind that on my own. I’m not sure who I’d bring who’d be comfortable with it, though. I had hot water and cold AC, and the beach was a five-minute walk. Customer service was five stars. The outdoor shower was good, and the kitchen was adequate, if old. Housekeeping was awesome: my room was clean, and I got the towels, soap, and fresh bedding I requested every day. I was happy to leave a tip for her daily. I’d stay again by myself.
