Hampton Inn & Suites San Juan

A nice pool and Jacuzzi, plus vouchers to rent beach chairs and an umbrella. The hotel is centrally located in Isla Verde, near the beach, restaurants, and cafes. Families and kids should find it a good fit. Breakfast had a wide variety each day and tasted great. The free drinks and snacks at happy hour from 5-7 were a bonus.

We came here for our honeymoon, but the stay left us disappointed. Our room smelled strongly of mildew, and planes were constantly noisy both outside and inside, making it hard to relax. At the front desk, we repeatedly found staff texting, play fighting with each other, or ignoring us. Guests who came up after us were helped first. We also couldn't miss the difference in how guests from certain demographics were spoken to and treated compared with us. As a longtime Honors member, I'd never before left a Hilton property feeling like this. I filed a complaint with corporate, and anyone with a similar experience might want to do the same. I won't be back.

Freddy at the front desk made our arrival easy. He was warm, friendly, and helpful about the hotel and the area, and was the one employee who really stood out for service. We had a four-night stay with four people in suite 115 on the first floor. The daily happy hour, with free drinks from 5-7pm, was a nice perk. We used the beds for most of the trip, and nobody sleeping in them got bites. On our last night, another girl and I slept on the pull-out couch after getting back late, since our flight was only a few hours away. The next morning we both had itchy red bumps that looked like bed bug bites. She had more than I did, since I kept getting up from the couch. The itching got worse through that morning and into the next day. I'd checked the beds when we arrived and saw no signs of bugs, but hadn't checked the couch. When I called the hotel to report it, the employee asked why we hadn't said something sooner because other guests were now in the room. We only discovered the bites the next morning. The response was basically “sorry about that,” with no offer to investigate further, escalate it, or resolve anything. Housekeeping was inconsistent too. We requested service, but the room was cleaned only once in four days, and not at all for two days straight. After I called for towels, I waited over 30 minutes, called again, and was told they were coming before the employee hung up. Several of the daytime women at the front desk also weren't friendly and didn't greet us when we came in. Because of the room issues, the lack of response to the bites, and the service, I wouldn't stay again.

We picked this Hampton Inn for one night before our cruise and loved it. It's very close to the airport, with the beach and a grocery store about a 10-minute walk away for wine and sunscreen. Foxwoods Casino and Lupi's Mexican sports bar are about five minutes on foot. The bed was insanely comfortable, and the room AC got really cool. The happy hour was a surprise, with different rums, Medallia local beer, and mixers. Breakfast was the usual Hampton Inn style and excellent, especially the waffles.
