Sunset Paradise Villas

They cancelled our reservation at the last minute without warning or an explanation. We were a large party, and now people are stranded with nowhere to stay. They say there’s no availability. Wouldn’t recommend.

The beach and snorkeling were excellent, and the location was great. Our spacious five-bedroom, four-bath unit worked well for our family, including our adult kids. The kitchen was well equipped, and staff responded quickly when we needed beach chairs, paddle boards, and other things.

The view is what you’re paying for. Villa Camila wasn’t as luxurious as the somewhat outdated, misleading online sales brochure pictures suggest, and it felt a little run down. I’m not sure how they arrived at 2,100 square feet, since the interior seems under a thousand. The hot tub water was cloudy and smelly, with little or no chlorine. We asked staff twice to fix the quality. They did something, but the test strips still showed no chlorine. Rain running off the roof into the uncovered tub probably doesn’t help. The AC worked, and there was hot and cold running water. The kitchen was sparsely equipped: “various spices” meant salt and pepper, lol. The stove and microwave seemed new, though the washer and dryer didn’t work. A couple of times, one bathroom smelled like sewage, apparently from the shower drain. A plug and wet towel over it seemed to help. There were no towel bars. The neighborhood roosters started up around 3 a.m. and carried on for hours, so take earplugs. I also had to find the workers a couple of times because they’d parked in our spot. Other than that, it was great. You’re paying for the view.

I’m hoping to stay here for a sixth time next winter. I’ve already been five times and keep coming back for the oceanfront location, with waves crashing below and the chance to swim and snorkel right there. I like being in a neighborhood instead of a resort, and there’s a local pizza place next door. The apartments are clean, well appointed, and have everything you need. Staff are available to answer questions.
