I stayed one night between other stops, mainly for easy access to the beach in SJ. The entrance and lobby had a groovy look, and the restaurant and bar are right beside the waves. I met the proprietress while I waited for someone who could use the computer to check me in. She was delightful and said she'd been running the place for 45 years or something like that. Given that, I was impressed by how modern the shared spaces looked. The room was a different story, small and very basic, with a brown polyester comforter, no drinking glass, and no trash can, even in the restroom. The fixtures were old and loose, and I couldn't tell whether the little TV worked because there were no instructions or obvious controls. None of it was especially outrageous for a budget motel or guest house, but Google calls this a 4-star hotel, and it isn't.

The young woman working at the bar was lovely, and I liked the collection of Asian architectural pieces in the decor. The Ocean Park spot is beautiful and right on the beach, with decent parking. Getting in and out of the gated community was confusing for no good reason, and Hosteria didn't give us any guidance. Rustic is fine, but the place was dirty and poorly kept. The price didn't match the service or cleanliness. The stay was okay, but overall it wasn't great.

The oceanfront setting is lovely, with warm water and a beautiful view, but that's the only thing I liked. We barely had usable Wi-Fi, and the room wasn't much, though I'm not too fussy about rooms and you get what you pay for. The restaurant service was the worst part. The staff acted like serving guests was a favor and couldn't manage a simple smile. One waitress brought me half a cup of coffee looking annoyed. After that, I left a $1 tip, and she verbally attacked me. We started eating elsewhere and only returned to sleep. We're leaving tomorrow morning for another place. I wouldn't stay here again even if someone paid me.

The room was clean, and the bed was really comfortable. Mine was small and cozy, though the bathroom was cramped and the toilet was partly broken. The TV didn't work right on my first night, but I wasn't there to watch it anyway. There's no fridge.

The room felt a bit worn, but the bed was very comfortable. UVA had good food and the service was great. With the hotel right on the beach, I was happy with the stay and would recommend it.
