Angel Hotel

We had a lovely six-day stay, and I’d definitely recommend it. The staff were so polite, spoke English really well, and gave excellent service. Our comfortable room was wonderfully clean each day, with fresh towels and soap. There was a good range of food, including salads and meat, and it was delicious.

The view over the West Bank and Bethlehem was great, and there was decent Wi-Fi for the area. It was also easy to get to local shops and places to eat. The hotel itself was bright, cheerful, and spotlessly clean, with excellent food at every meal and good meeting rooms. The people were warm, gracious, friendly, and eager to please, almost to a fault.

The rooms were clean and the food decent, though the buffet barely changed during our three days. In room 1314, the air conditioner didn’t work properly. We tried to at least get the fan running, but the room stayed hot and stuffy. Staff didn’t help despite repeated complaints.

There were friendly merchants and an awesome bakery nearby, though the narrow, rocky sidewalks were difficult to walk at night. Trash builds up around the area, and sanitation is a big problem. I’m not sure what four stars means in Bethlehem, Isreal. We were with a tour group, and when the group asked to stay somewhere else on our return to Bethlehem, they just put a band-aid on the request and sent us back here. Some people were moved to other rooms because of safety complaints or other issues. The doors only use a key, which wouldn’t pass USA fire code. Our room was cramped, the floor needed a deep clean, and there was mold in the shower. No washcloths, just large hand towels for cleaning. Housekeeping made a poor attempt at the bed, emptied the trash, and left towels if any were available. There was instant coffee and a small refrigerator in the room. The dining was inexpensive, with filler foods like potatoes and rice, nothing special for entrees, and one small dessert choice.
