Herdade Dos Barros

The balloon trip with Sr Rui Caeiro was incredible, from the briefing right through to the last moment. The whole team deserves congratulations. We also loved the saltwater pool, surrounded by natural grass and a beautifully kept garden, even in 40° heat. A really welcoming rural stay, with wonderful hosts throughout.

The saltwater pool was just the thing for cooling off in the Alentejo heat, and breakfast came with a spectacular homemade cake. We had a wonderful few days at Herdade dos Barros, with Rui and his wife looking after us. The peaceful countryside, cozy rooms, and typical Alentejo decor gave us the comfort and quiet we wanted, along with a real sense of the region. It was a perfect place to rest. We’d love to return and highly recommend it.

The hosts were so kind and professional, and breakfast was beautifully done. Thanks for everything.

I paid for two nights but left after just one because it was so bad. I’d rather pay double somewhere else than stay in a place I didn’t like. Mr Rui’s service was awful. He came across as arrogant and disrespectful, like he was doing me a favor, and acted like a dictator. I know now I made a terrible choice. I got out of this pseudo-hotel as fast as I could, without even having breakfast. The room was old-fashioned and extremely uncomfortable, with a bad mattress. There were flies in the room even in winter, because one window had a screen and the other didn’t. Mr Rui should have told the flies they weren’t allowed in through the unscreened window. I felt unwelcome, and staying for as little time as possible was the best choice. Zero for this accommodation.
