Apartamentos Baltum

Everyone made my week in the hotel special and memorable. I can't praise the team highly enough. So many staff deserve a mention, including the people at reception, housekeeping and the restaurant. I also want to thank my breakfast buddy, Pranha, and my Portugal guru, Marta, who solved every problem and was an extraordinary source of visitor information. You all went out of your way to help. We were pleasantly surprised by how good this little “Boutique Like” hotel was. Hotel Baltum sits right on the main strip in Albufeira, with lots of small shops close by. Just to the right of the entrance, we found a great little shop selling wines and ports. We bought several lovely ports, some for the room and some to take back to Canada. The rooftop patio has a bar and great views. Our spacious room was always clean, and the small restaurant attached to the side had lots of breakfast choices. We ate breakfast there every morning, though we had dinner elsewhere most nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful whenever we had questions. The price was quite reasonable. We weren't sure what to expect at that rate, but the hotel was a pleasant surprise. Bars near the main strip can make the later evenings noisy, though it wasn't enough to disturb our sleep. We were there off season and the staff looked after us well. They did good work. The location is handy for the beach and nightlife, with loud bars nearby. Guests came back at all hours, and the walls and doors had no soundproofing. The rooftop was closed too, so there was no hot tub, which was disappointing. The rooms are quite dated and felt uncomfortably humid. It was probably condensation from the cool weather, which the hotel can't control.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and always willing to help. The location was the drawback. Bars about 100 yards away played very loud music until 3am, so we slept with the windows closed. We had researched this hotel and a couple of others, but couldn't find anything warning us the music would be so loud.
