We loved Albufeira and would happily come back to the area, but our stay at Muthu Forte da Oura left us disappointed. The staff were lovely and clearly doing their best, though the hotel itself felt poorly maintained and nowhere near the five-star standard advertised. We’d put it closer to three stars for the price. The room lighting was very dim, which made getting ready in the evening awkward for three of us. The bathroom light was the only decent one, but that wasn’t much use when someone was showering. The bathroom felt dated too, with a worn old bath and shower curtain. We also couldn’t close the balcony door properly and needed help with it. Housekeeping left dirty cups and glasses unwashed, and there were no supplies in the room to wash them ourselves. That seemed especially disappointing at an all-inclusive hotel. We also had ants coming onto the balcony and into the room every day. Food was one of the biggest let-downs. None of us rated it, and we ate out several times. Some salads tasted unpleasant, and the Asian-themed night was much too spicy for those of us who don’t eat spicy food. One of our group is gluten-free, and we appreciated that they provided gluten-free toast at breakfast and separate gluten-free desserts. The drinks selection was limited too. The bar only had its standard gin, with no flavoured choices, so we bought pink gin elsewhere. Bottled water wasn’t included either, unlike at other all-inclusive hotels we’ve stayed at where it was provided or kept in the room fridge.

The location is great and it was good value. The food was good, especially at the Mexican restaurant, and we enjoyed breakfast, though we didn’t try lunch. The rooms were really nice. It takes a little getting used to having the hotel spread across three nearby locations. Amir was great behind the bar. When I asked for coconut rum, he suggested a cocktail that my whole family loved. The “Amir Special” definitely deserves a place on the cocktail menu!

We had a really enjoyable holiday and thought the all-inclusive package was great value. Being able to use the two sister hotels gave us four pools to choose from, plus plenty of bars and places to eat. There are also speciality restaurants you can book for dinner at no extra cost with the package, so it felt like we were eating out every night. The staff worked tirelessly to make the stay memorable. I’d recommend it.

We only stayed a few days, but had a really nice experience at Forte da Oura. The room was spacious and clean, and everyone at reception was very kind and ready to help. With all-inclusive, we could choose from lots of restaurants and also eat at the other hotels. The food quality was very good too.

My husband and I had dinner at the Mexican restaurant in one of MGM’s sister hotels, and it was great. Head waiter chetan looked after us brilliantly from start to finish. After we’d finished our two tacos, my husband was still hungry, so they brought out another beef taco. The food was fresh, Madhan kept checking that we had drinks, and the service was excellent. Can’t wait to come back.
