Vila Gale Cerro Alagoa Resort Hotel

The hotel is handy for a shopping center, and the sea view is lovely. There’s also a little train for exploring Albufeira if you don’t know the area yet. What really stood out, though, was the team. Christiana at reception and her colleagues were impressively efficient and went well beyond what I expected. Ines and the restaurant staff put out a daily buffet of fresh farm meals, along with their own house wine, which I really admired. I’ve spent nearly thirty years traveling by bus and plane and staying in hotels and restaurants, so it takes a lot to surprise me. This place still did.

The team made our stay, with their friendliness and willingness to help. The hotel and rooms were spotless, and there was an amazing range of good food. It’s our second time here, and we’d happily recommend it. The main tourist area is an easy walk, or you can catch the land train right outside. McDonalds and KFC are across the road if you’re after fast food.

The room issue was handled well: there was a loud humming fan or humidity machine beneath my first room, but reception changed me to a much quieter one without fuss. On arrival, the hotel looked beautiful and classy, and the reception staff were very friendly. I stayed six days over New Year’s Eve 2025. Breakfast was a different story. The restaurant was far too crowded for its small dining area, and the whole setup felt chaotic. I had to queue for a seat, and the only table offered outside was a no in December’s cold. There were no hygiene stations, people handled food and put it back, and bread, buns, and rolls came out in small amounts that people quickly grabbed. Jam and butter were nowhere near the bread, creating more crowding. Some chairs were broken or wobbly, food was on counters and the floor, and staff walked over it. Salt and pepper were only near the omelette station, adding to the crush. It was an absolute zoo, though even that comparison gives a zoo too much credit for organization. I understand outdoor dining might be available in summer, but breakfast needs better organization in winter, especially during New Year celebrations. Villa Galé, this part of your hospitality needs work.

We loved the food at breakfast and dinner, and the hotel has entertainment every night from 9 to 11 pm without making the place noisy. Our room was spacious and clean, with a balcony looking over the pool and the ocean in the distance. The staff were warm and very helpful throughout. It’s well placed between the old town, about a five-minute walk away, and the new town near the strip, also within walking distance. That lets you enjoy both areas. I’d highly recommend staying here, and we’ll definitely return.
