The reviews make this place sound overrated to me. Our river-facing room was quite acceptable, about three-star level. The other room looked out on the back street and was in bad shape: wet carpet, a smelly bathroom with paint peeling off the walls and ceiling, and a hole in the wall where the door handle had knocked away the plaster. We asked to move, but were told the hotel was full (?). Breakfast was on a lovely terrace overlooking the river, but what they served was below par, two stars at best. All in all, a disappointing stay.

The view over the river and bridges from the room was lovely, and the decor was the most stylish of any hotel on my trip so far. All the places I’ve stayed have been budget hotels under 65 euros, but this was the nicest. The staff were helpful and accommodating, and breakfast was included. It was awesome, served in the super cool third-floor dining room with killer views. I could’ve stayed up there all morning. This place would actually be fine for a Hilton person.

This is my favorite hotel in the area so far, and I really enjoyed my stays. It’s right on the riverfront, so the view has a 50/50 chance of being pretty. The rooms are simple, clean and airy, and the breakfast buffet is nice, served in a pleasant setting. Parking has no restrictions or rules, so if you find a spot pretty much anywhere, you’re set.

I hadn’t planned to end up in this area, so the booking was a surprise, but I was absolutely surprised by how much I liked it. The rice fields had storks, swallows and lots of pigeons. The car I rented was parked under the room’s balcony and got graciously “fertilized,” if you know what I mean. The local market had very tasty local produce, and there’s a nearby restaurant that adds to the appeal. Really nice, cute hotel. I wonder if I’ll ever visit again. An absolute recommendation.

Hotel Ordem de Santiago is a pretty cool place, and the location is excellent if you want to be right in the center of this lovely, very small city. The staff deserve plenty of praise for how well they do their jobs, and the building has a lovely view from the top-floor breakfast area. The room interiors look modern and well maintained. The rooms are tiny, though, with very little space even if you’re used to living in one room. Sound carries too: I could hear the man next door using the toilet and people walking upstairs to breakfast. In my room, the bidet didn’t work and the sink drained badly. I’m sure the staff would have sorted it out, but I didn’t want to bother them, so that part was partly on me. I’d recommend it with some reservations.
