Guesthouse of Alcobaça

We were very well looked after, and I would happily spend a few nights at Challet Fonte Nova. The breakfast was outstanding, with fruit, bread, cheese, hard-boiled eggs and excellent coffee, all served in a 19th-century setting. Our hosts were kind, the rooms beautifully decorated and very clean, and the beds comfortable. You'll love being pampered here.

Pedro was wonderful to talk with. He gave us recommendations, helped with my special assistance accommodations, and made us feel cared for. Breakfast was worth getting up for, especially if you love brunch food like I do. Breakfast ends at 10 AM. We visited the old castle ruins on our way out, then continued to the next town. I hadn't expected to love this stop so much. We were passing through from Lisbon to Sintra to Alcobaca to Coimbra to Porto, but I absolutely loved this charming chalet. The mansion grounds had a beautiful garden view, and my room in the main house was nicely decorated with thoughtful little touches. Everything worked out perfectly for accessibility, including the lift. There's a new section too, though I didn't stay there. This hidden gem was built in 1872 and is very well maintained. You can walk to the Monastery and town restaurants without the noise. There was even a concert the evening we arrived, and it was nice to catch it. The location only gets four stars from me because of the neighborhood. It's not somewhere I'd venture to unless I was going elsewhere. But now I have a great impression of the staff and would like to stop there again. This place clearly cares about its guests, grounds and home.

The monastery is just a three-minute walk away, and the house itself is beautiful, with spacious, charming bedrooms. The staff were professional and friendly. Pedro in particular made our stay even nicer. We’d definitely recommend it.

The breakfast was amazing, and the rooms were comfortable. We found the staff lovely and welcoming, always willing to go out of their way to make our stay a good one. The hotel has an elegant, historic, romantic feel, and the monastery and other local sights are within walking distance. Highly recommend!
