The rooftop was a highlight for us. We loved the wide 360º view, had a lovely time sunbathing and swimming in the pool, and the gym was a pleasant surprise too, with plenty of room and good-quality machines. The beach is about 250 metres away, and there’s also a lagoon nearby. We came to switch off, and the calm setting made that easy. The sea-view rooms do look out over a few abandoned houses, but the scenery is still beautiful. Inside, our room was smaller than I’d expected, though it worked perfectly for a weekend. I think it would be manageable for longer too, but I can see how not having a proper wardrobe might feel cramped. We also really liked the hotel’s atmosphere and décor. Breakfast was lovely, especially the granola, which tasted like it might be homemade. There’s even complimentary cake in a little spot by reception, a very thoughtful touch. I’m looking forward to the rooftop bar serving salads and summer dishes. If those had been available, we’d happily have had lunch there.

The people here made the stay. From the FO agents to the attentive Housekeeping team and the outstanding F&B staff, everyone contributed to a wonderful experience. The F&B menu was well put together, the cocktails were excellent, and the food was consistently delicious. Breakfast had a fresh, enjoyable variety as well. The hotel is beautiful, with thoughtful details, comfortable beds and high-quality linens. The Castelbel bathroom amenities were another nice touch. A couple of small things could be improved: the breakfast coffee machine, since the coffee quality felt below the rest of the hotel’s standard, and the in-room TV menus, which could use an update. I had a wonderful stay and would gladly return.

We stayed one night with our little poodle and thought the room looked great, was clean, and felt fantastic. The restaurant was a real surprise. We ordered fish and steak, and I’d definitely recommend it. It was great value for money at this time of year. The only snag was that the room felt a bit too warm and we couldn’t adjust the temperature.

The front desk really helped us sort out our messed up booking, and we ended up in a lovely room with a view and a king size bed. The whole place felt tidy, clean and cozy. I loved the artsy, carefully curated interior, and everyone was so lovely and helpful. We’d happily come back any time!

The staff were a big part of what made our stay. Everyone we met was exceptionally kind and ready to help. We arrived early and they let us use a meeting room for a Zoom call without hesitation. Later, we got a surprise room upgrade, which was a thoughtful gesture. The location worked well for exploring the coast. The beach and lagoon are a short drive away, or an easy walk. The beach was quiet and clean, and lovely for sunset walks. We also enjoyed the extraordinary birdwatching at the lagoon. The town is small and low-key, with a local market and a few simple restaurants that add to its charm. Amarello Hotel is close to Melides and Sines, tucked away but still connected, and the price felt very fair. The hotel itself is an elegant but unpretentious escape. Our room was fresh and beautifully designed, with crisp sheets, plush towels and everything we needed to feel at home. The rooftop deck and pool were excellent places to unwind, and the bar served genuinely good food. The pica-pau was especially memorable. It’s an excellent base for exploring the Alentejo coast, and we’ll definitely be back.
