The pool was peaceful and lovely, and they thoughtfully prepared a bed for our baby. Our room was roomy and comfortable, though the bed felt a little hard. We were happy with the stay, but the place seemed somewhat deserted and could use some finesse. The restaurant let things down a bit: much of the food was dry, especially the pork, and slightly overpriced. Thanks to Joao for making us some nice cocktails.

Maria greeted us at the entrance and was so kind and sweet. We were there as a couple and had a really good experience. The room smelled amazing, and the whole place felt great and relaxing, just right for getting away from the 9-18h rat race. ☺️🥰🌎😀🇵🇹

The village was very quiet, with only a few shops and not much to do. There was a very budget local bar, too. The hotel itself is a lovely old building, originally a castle, with large, charming rooms. It seemed short-staffed, especially in the restaurant and bar, possibly because it was out of season, though they did try.

Castelo de Alvito is a castle hotel where non-clients can visit. Entry is free, and a visit takes about 30-40 min. There are toilets and parking, though no bike parking. Built in the 16th century, the castle served both military and housing purposes. Its style is Gothic with oriental influence. One family owned it for several centuries, until the 19th century, and by the end of the 20th century it had been turned into a hotel.
