Feels like a castle, but at the price of a basic hotel. Everything looked new, was arranged and decorated with real style, and the place was very comfortable. What a great spot in Amarante ❤️

The rooms are spacious and the beds are good, and Luisa has renovated the old house to a really high standard. She’s a lovely host who takes great care of guests, even welcoming you with wine and cheese. Breakfast is fabulous, you definitely won’t leave hungry. We stayed three nights and found it very relaxing, so I’d suggest staying longer than one.

We spent three nights here and I’m already thinking about coming back regularly. The rooms are huge, and there’s plenty to choose from at breakfast. The hosts were incredible and made it feel like home. Casa do Fontão is a real find, and we want to return as soon as we can.

Doña Luisa welcomed us with a table of cheese, homemade jam, wine, pastries, and nuts, then showed us to a spacious suite with antique furniture, a large bathroom, and breathtaking views from the windows. She was warm and caring throughout, almost like a grandmother looking after us, and made us a delicious breakfast each morning. Casa do Fontao sits in a residential part of Amarante, overlooking valleys, hills, and towns. You can drive into town in about 10 minutes or walk. The property has lovely gardens, a terrace and patio with spectacular views, a cozy sitting room, and both formal and informal dining rooms. It’s a charming guest house in a charming town, worth adding to a Porto and Douro Valley trip. The restored house has been updated without losing its original essence. Wandering through it feels like stepping back into a time of splendor and grace. When we arrived, Doña Luisa declared it the best guest house in Amarante. We couldn’t disagree.
