Pousada de Amares/Geres - Sta. Maria do Bouro

Rudy looked after us so well, and we enjoyed chatting with him over dinner. We ate at the restaurant both nights and loved our meals. Everything about this Posada was top-notch. The space is strikingly beautiful, mixing old and modern perfectly, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. I can't recommend it highly enough.

We visited in winter, and the rooms were warm and cosy. The old building is beautiful, and there are several rooms where you can sit and have a good chat. The fireplace room was our favourite. Staff were professional, kind, and friendly, and shared interesting details about the building's past as a monastery.

We spent quiet evenings by the huge fireplace and enjoyed the grounds. In December it was peaceful and relaxing, with wonderful staff and excellent service. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was excellent and breakfast was magnificent. I'd recommend a visit and would come back next time I'm in Northern Portugal.

The main drawback is that there's little to do right by the hotel, so it suits a quiet break on the property more than a visit focused on a lively town or city. For a romantic trip, though, Pousada Mosteiro de Amares has lovely views, peaceful corners, and a distinctive historic setting. It's a beautiful hotel in a converted religious building that has kept much of its old charm. The architecture gives it a calm atmosphere you don't often find in modern hotels. The beds were very comfortable, and the pool was unexpectedly cool even in winter, which was fun and refreshing. Breakfast was delicious, with a good range of fresh local options. A comfortable and memorable stay for couples or anyone who enjoys historic hotels.
