Casa da Fajã

My family stayed here and loved the beautiful setting. Just keep an eye out for those gremlin night birds, lol.

There were four of us, and the house had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. It has three spacious bedrooms, so there was plenty of room. The mattresses could be more comfortable, and sharing one bathroom with a shower made getting ready take a while. Still, we loved our stay and would definitely come back.

The place has a nice feel and seems like it could be lovely in summer, though the kitchen would benefit from a few more everyday utensils. Getting there means driving down a long, steep road from the main road, so having your own car is essential. The house faces the coast at the foot of the lava escarpment, which is where its name comes from. From outside it's attractive, and we were given the one on the right with the porch hammock. It often appears in photos beside what looks like a matching house, but that one seemed better cared for up close. Maybe we were unlucky, or perhaps the owners were busy with other projects since it was outside tourist season. Both bathrooms leaked soon after we arrived, and despite several complaints, nobody came to fix them for five days. The owner did eventually come the night the fuses blew because the microwave was malfunctioning, and took full responsibility for the problem.

The Atlantic view is amazing, and there are natural pools nearby in place of a beach. We were delighted by the house, from its tasteful, refined furnishings to the appliances for cooking and enjoying a holiday. A real dream place.
