The location worked especially well for us without a car. There is plenty to do downtown, food and shops everywhere, and you can walk to a beach area. Monte Brasil is probably easier to reach by car if you want to get to the top. It's the capital, so there's lots of history, and there's a garden farther down the road. This is a very nice two-star hotel that delivers what it advertises: affordable, very clean, with friendly, attentive staff and someone always at the desk. The rooms are small, so consider a suite if you need more room. They're well maintained and have the necessities and air conditioning. I wasn't keen on two twin beds pushed together as a king, though I've encountered that on many trips. My shower was great and accessible, which is a real plus for anyone with mobility needs. Breakfast is included, but it's the same every day and nothing special. It's okay for quick fruit or toast, while the eggs were barely edible. There are a dozen cafes within walking distance right outside. One thing I noticed is that people here respect privacy and may not assume you want to interact. If you're from somewhere like the USA, where strangers smile at each other, that could seem cold. Say hello and show you're open to a chat, and they'll welcome you and help right away. The location was fine, about a ten-minute walk down to the harbor side, and the rooms were tidy. The air conditioning worked perfectly and the shower had good, steady hot water. But the toilet was awkwardly placed, and the shower partition didn't keep the water in, so I had to put a towel on the floor to stop the bathroom flooding. Breakfast was basic and the same every day, which got boring. The orange juice was especially disappointing. The late-shift receptionist or concierge did his job, but we never saw him smile. He seemed unhappy with the work, and it felt awkward asking him for anything. Customer service didn't seem like his happy place.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and the clean rooms had air conditioning and good beds. It's a nice, central spot in the city, yet quiet, with a large free parking lot nearby. Breakfast was a little sparse.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. The staff, from reception and waiters to the cleaning team, were rude and disrespectful. Breakfast was very basic and only average to poor quality. The rooms and bathrooms were far too cramped: there's no room to open a large suitcase, and getting into the shower takes some maneuvering. Toiletries amount to a bar of soap and two small shampoo sachets.
