Torel Terra Brava

The spa was a treat to enjoy every day, and we had such a lovely stay at Torel Terra Brava with our baby. The hotel and room are thoughtfully designed, the restaurant's food and drinks are delicious, and everyone on staff was kind and ready to help. Many thanks to Ana, Marco, Jose, Lucas, Valdino and Raymond, and apologies if we've missed anyone. Everything felt just right. We'd love to come back.

What stays with me most is the octopus, along with the breakfasts with Jose and dinners with Arley. The hotel and its staff made a lasting impression, too. There was such humanity, kindness and sincerity, alongside professionalism, taste and style. Thank you for an affecting experience. We'll definitely return.

The team made this stay special. Everyone was friendly, professional and kind, and they worked together like a big family. Marco gave us great restaurant tips and Lucas helped with local attractions. We arrived late, and they had left snacks in our room simply because they wanted to. Our Corgi was welcome too, with a bed and bowls waiting in the room. We can't wait to come back. We've stayed many times at Torel Boutique Hotel properties in Lisbon and Porto, so we were excited to visit their first Azores hotel, which had opened earlier that year. At just three months old, it was already running superbly. The design feels fresh and intimate, the lobby is spacious, and there are complimentary snacks and lemonade throughout the day. Ask the bartender for a local maracuja (passion fruit) drink, it's great. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the downstairs restaurant, with plenty of options. We especially liked the mini Azorean sweets from a local confectionery shop on the breakfast buffet. There are indoor and outdoor pools, plus a sauna and steam room nearby. The outdoor pool is a little cold for winter swimming. Our room was comfortable, and we loved the nightly turn-down service, a luxury that's rare these days, along with chocolates from São Tomé and creative bookmarks with local themes. The hotel is in the historic town, a few blocks from the most overtly touristy sights but still within walking distance of them.

We had a great time here. It's an authentic Azorian hotel that's recently been refurbished, right in the middle of town, though the roads are tricky. The staff were fantastic, especially Marco and Lucas, who were a big help. There are good restaurants nearby, and room 201 has a great view if it's available.
