Atlantis Country House

The house was clean, the view was beautiful, and the owner was really friendly. Couldn't ask for a better stay ;)

Can't put it into words, just emotion. A perfect stay.

Such a lovely place.

The setting is lovely, with a great view and a rustic feel. The beds were clean and the mattresses were fine. Those were the good points, but serious problems around hygiene and safety affected our stay, and I can't recommend the place as it is now. There were cockroaches, millipedes and lots of flies in the house. With no fly screens, that was worse. A chicken coop right beside the house brought constant noise and bad smells. The kitchen gear was badly worn, especially the unusable pans. The dishwasher was broken and gave electric shocks while running, which is a serious, potentially life-threatening risk. On two days the levada, an artificial waterway, overflowed. The first time it flooded the house. The owner reacted quickly and dried everything, but we were told it had happened several times before. The second time, water came over so forcefully that a wall beside the property collapsed. Cracks appeared in the terrace with water leaking through them, which felt worrying and dangerous. The neighborhood seemed neglected and unpleasant, and the neighbors were often loud and arguing. Getting from the parking lot to the house means taking a steep path of about 150 meters with many steps and no handrail. That would be very difficult with heavy luggage or limited mobility. The house has potential because of its location and style, but the current issues with hygiene, electricity, water and surroundings make staying there very problematic.
