Parking was the one drawback. There isn’t much at the hotel, and although we found free parking on a nearby street most days, one day we had a bit of a walk. We loved our stay at Marsuites, a cute, clean boutique hotel with breakfast included each day and both hot and cold options. The staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations. The beach is a short walk away, and only on our last day did we find out the hotel lends out beach umbrellas for free. We’d definitely stay again.

Less than a two-minute walk gets you to the beach, plus plenty of restaurants and bars. The location couldn’t be better. We had a double room for a week and felt right at home thanks to the warm, kind and helpful staff. They know the region inside out and can suggest dozens of places to visit. The team speaks Portuguese, English, French and probably other languages too. The hotel has been freshly renovated, and our spotless room had a charming maritime style. WiFi was free and reliably fast. Breakfast was excellent, with the usual hotel choices, fresh fruit, yogurt, jams and regional baked goods. You can also order eggs, bacon and toast made fresh. Highly recommended.

We didn’t stay in the end, but the team also refused to refund one of the two booked nights. Given what happened, that would have been a reasonable goodwill gesture. Our account had been charged six days before arrival, which seemed unusual to us, since hotels tend to take payment when you arrive after securing your card details in case of a no-show. I booked a double room in early May for mid-August. When Ana showed us the room that afternoon, it was the only one on the ground floor, between reception and the parking lot. We could hear everything happening at reception, and the window looked directly onto parked cars. I assume it was the room adapted for people with reduced mobility, but it didn’t look like the website photos. It had no balcony or the advertised traditional design, and shouldn’t have cost the same as the other rooms. When I said it wasn’t what I’d booked, Ana told us she couldn’t change it because only the booking platform could make changes. That seemed surprising. She also said the hotel was quiet, but it’s hard to relax right beside the entrance and reception, especially with no hotel staff there after 8 pm. If there were noise problems, we’d have had to handle them ourselves. The staff may say they usually do all they can to satisfy guests, but the problem starts with renting this room at the same price as the others.

The family who owns and runs this place made the stay. They’re incredibly welcoming, sweet and helpful. I’d go downstairs to fill my water bottle or get tea, and staff would take care of it even though they didn’t have to. Everyone in the family greeted me with a smile and a hello. The rooms are nice, with what you need, including a comfortable bed, TV, WiFi and balcony. You can leave the balcony door open and get fresh air. It’s great value, about a two-minute walk from the beach. I’d choose this over staying right on the beachfront, where there’s more noise. I’d recommend it.

This is our second stay, and we’re sure we’ll be back. The family-run hotel is such a gem, with cozy, spotlessly clean rooms and a great spot two minutes from both the beach and all the restaurants. Breakfast had everything from muesli to scrambled eggs with bacon. Everyone on staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Thanks for making our time in Armação de Pera special! ❤️
