The Douro River area is beautiful, with wonderful scenery and great quintas for port tasting. We had a terrific stay, and Maria and José were gracious and friendly from the moment we arrived. It's hard to imagine a more authentic experience in a small Portuguese hotel.

A lovely old palace, now refurbished, with roomy rooms, a nice view, and the Douro River close by.

We had a balcony door in our beautiful room, and drove from here to all the popular wineries. The hotel doesn't have a pool, but after long days exploring the Valley, we were too tired and buzzed for one to matter. There are two restaurants nearby with fair prices, and the receptionist can recommend them. Everyone at the hotel was welcoming, and the place was spotlessly clean. They don't speak English and I don't speak Portuguese, but Google Translate worked perfectly. Breakfast was a nice Portuguese-style buffet.

Fatima was friendly and so helpful, and served a fabulous breakfast in the morning. Our room had plenty of space, a comfortable bed, a small fridge, and a good bathroom. We had a memorable stay at this lovely Douro Valley hotel. Old-fashioned hospitality at its best. Highly recommended.

There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, with options for different budgets. The location also works very well for visiting Lamego and the Douro wine region. We expected less and were pleasantly surprised. A great place for a quiet weekend away, highly recommended.
