Hotel Rural Quinta de Novais

The grounds are lovely and there was a big breakfast spread. We had a large room with a large double bed, though the TV felt small for the space, so I took one mark off. The receptionist was polite and friendly and showed us to our room. The hotel is close to town by car. We didn't try the pool, but condensation on the cover made me think it was probably heated well. Good value.

The breakfast had a huge choice, like at top hotels, with cooked eggs, cereals and freshly cut fruit. The rustic traditional bread was the best I’ve ever had, and the internet was good too. The hotel was lovely and warm despite the massive granite walls, and the staff gave us excellent advice about the area. We booked directly in March for a visit to the Passadiços from the Paiva River canyon and Ponte 516, the longest suspended walking bridge in the world. The hiking was fantastic and not too difficult overall. We may come back in warmer weather to enjoy the bucolic views from the veranda.

The room balcony had a lovely view, and breakfast was good. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Excellent value for the price.

A splendid terrace looks out over the hills, still green in mid May. This is a charming little hotel and a good place to stay when travelling to Arouca. The room was clean and nice, and the beds were comfortable.
