I never found out what the rooms are like, since the way reception treated me put me off booking. I only wanted to ask whether late checkout was available and how it worked. A man answered in Portuguese, and when I asked if he spoke English, he said yes. He clearly didn’t understand my question, even after I tried explaining it twice more. All I got was, “you check out ask my college at reception it's possible,” which still makes no sense to me. Then he hung up. I’m old enough to know that’s no way to treat someone who might become a customer. Just say you don’t speak English instead of lying on your CV.

Clean hotel, friendly staff and a nice breakfast. Really good place, highly recommended!

The place feels frozen in time. Musty smell, dim rooms and ashtrays still sitting by the lifts. It’s got everything except four stars.

The staff were great with us and our newborn. Our baby cried late at night, but nobody complained, which meant a lot when we were exhausted and still learning how to care for our little one. They provided a crib, very used but with a decent mattress. The cleaning lady was especially understanding about the mess babies make, room service was impeccable, and the bathroom was large and well maintained. The blackout curtains really do block out the light, and the Wi-Fi worked great. They use ubiquiti, with unifi Access Points throughout. The location is right in the city centre, the price was good, and there’s free parking in the underground garage. There’s no restaurant for lunch or dinner, but there’s a pizza place on the same street, plus a Portuguese traditional restaurant and a Chinese buffet. Keep walking and you’ll find more options. The bar opens after 4 pm, so check it out. A few things could use an update. The HVAC controls are old and yellowed, and some have lost the temperature numbers. A digital display with the room temperature and timers, such as running the AC for just three hours, would make it easier to get the room comfortable without leaving it on all night. There’s no bathroom extractor, so humidity could build up, though I didn’t notice a problem myself. The TV is a standard 1080p HDMI panel connected to cable. I’d have liked a casting setup like the one at Moxi hotels, with a chromecast for Netflix and other personal content. Since the hotel already has a great network, it seems doable, and could also support digital guest onboarding, service information and introductions to hotel areas and team members. Even with those possible upgrades, I was very satisfied. It’s a great place with a great team, and those issues didn’t take much away from the experience.
